The home side came into the game on the back of a run of four successive Premiership wins and got off to a flying start when full back Marc Bennett crossed for the first try within three minutes of the start after chasing down his own kick. Liam Jones added the conversion.

The two teams swapped penalties before Ceri Young and Geraint Llewellyn combined to send former Wales Under 20 centre Luke Ford over in the corner for a try that cut the gap to two points. The first-half ended badly for the visitors’ as prop Callum Lewis suffered a nasty ankle injury, but the second got off to a bright start.

Outside half Callum Hall chipped over the on-rushing home defence and half-back partner Tom Slater latched onto it and bagged the try. Hall converted and the Blue and Blacks had their noses in front.

The visitors then lost Jordan Viggers to the sin-bin before Bridgend were permanently reduced to 14 men when Adam O’Driscoll was sent-off for fighting.

The games between Aberavon and Pontypridd and Newport and Bedwas were called off because of the bad weather. Earlier in the week Llandovery drew 22-22 with Carmarthen Quins, Cross Keys beat Ebbw Vle 22-2 and Llanelli added to Neath’s woes with a 14-8 triumph.
