James Davies inspired the West Walians with a brace of tries as they marched on with their perfect record intact. Prop Phil John was the unlikely source of two tries as the Scarlets’ offloading game proved too much for the Gwent region.
Pivac’s men have surpassed his target of being amongst the top four sides by the end of the Rugby World Cup. Their haul of 25 points from six matches sees them top of the table and 16 points clear of the Dragons, who are the closest region in the Pro12 charts.
And Pivac admits it would be nice to knock the Ospreys, who have finished as the top Welsh side for the last two seasons, off their perch.
He said: “The goals change. Our first objective was to be in the top four when the rugby World Cup finished and we have achieved that.
“We want to be in the top six to qualify for Europe next year and be the top Welsh side in the Pro12 and if we can get into the top four that would be fantastic.”
Despite Davies crossing for a double and claiming the man-of-the-match award, Pivac was far from pleased with his marauding flanker. It was his off-target pass that allowed Jason Tovey to hack ahead and score to pull the Dragons back in to within one score.
“He wasn’t my man of the match,” said Pivac. “He put us under pressure with the try they scored in the first-half. James is hard on himself and will feel he didn’t have his best performance. But he is a player in fine form and it’s great to have him on our side rather than playing against us.”
