Penallta, second in Division 1 East and Plate champions in 2012, have reached the semi-finals for the second successive season following their 16-3 triumph at Ammanford in the last eight. They will meet the winners of the quarter-final between Skewen and Ystrad Rhonnda on 9 April.
Bedlinog are already safely through to the last four thanks to their 18-3 quarter-final win at Ynysybwl and they will meet the winners of the game between Whitland and Cwmllynfell. That fixture was due to be played last weekend, but fell foul of the weather.
In the SSE Swalec Bowl, the semi-final draw has been made, but none of the quarter-final matches have been played as yet. Bidding for glory are last season’s runners-up, Cambrian Welfare, who reached the last eight with a 20-3 home win over Machen last weekend to secure a quarter-final clash with Bynea.
Bynea are third in Division 3 West C and won 19-15 at Oakdale in round 5 at the end of last month. They will be playing for the right to meet the winners of the game between Hartridge and unbeaten Taffs Well in the semi-finals.
Taffs Well made it 18 games without defeat in the Bowl and league when they beat Swansea Uplands 15-0 in round five last weekend to set-up a quarter-final trip to Hartridge. Taffs Well lead Division 3 East Central B by 11 points, while Hartridge, who are top of Division 3 East B, gained revenge in round five with a 28-12 home win over Old Illtydians to erase the memory of their quarter-final defeat by the same team in 2014.
There are two more teams in addition to Bynea left in the competition from west Wales, with Division 3 West B rivals Tumble and Burry Port due to meet in the quarter-finals. Bury Port ran out 17-15 winners at Tumble in January and were 38-21 victors’ at home, although Tumble are one point ahead in the league in third place.
Whoever comes out on top in that clash will march on to the semi-finals to meet the winners of the quarter-final between Abercarn and Aberdare. Abercarn lost their first game of the season in the Bowl and league when they went down 14-10 at home against Division 3 East A leaders Caldicot last weekend.
Aberdare are nine points clear at the top of Division 3 East Central A and have lost only one game in the Bowl and league this season – 26-8 at Cambrian Welfare.
