It is an exciting season ahead for the regions with a series of four tournaments to play for the title, where the focus on the programme will be to start to identify potential Commonwealth Games athletes and start preparing for Gold Coast 2018.
The Under 18s season comes to a climax after players who have worked and trained hard all autumn and winter and performed well in their regional programmes, have been selected to play for East Wales or West Wales respectively.
WRU National Manager for Womens Rugby, Caroline Spanton is looking forward to Monday’s activity.
“Both management teams have had tough selection headaches which illustrates the depth we are now seeing in the game across the four regions,” she said.
“We have more players challenging for positions and talented girls are really stepping up, it is going to be a very positive few years ahead, and it’s also great to witness the growth we will see at the younger age groups.
“I have no doubt that the Regional 7s on the day will showcase the energy and passion we have for 7s and will start our journey to look at players for the Commonwealth Games.
“East versus West last year was a big highlight for me, the impact the game had on players was tremendous and inspired many others to work and train hard knowing they could have the opportunity to represent their region at the stadium.”
