Williams, who plays at fullback and wing, and is currently with the Wales Sevens squad preparing for the Hong Kong Sevens this weekend, will join the championship side for the 2016-17 season.

Williams has made 54 appearances for the Scarlets with his only appearance this season coming against Zebre in October in the Guinness PRO12. He has scored 81 points for the region, scoring 13 tries.

Williams said: “I’d like to thank the supporters, coaches and my team-mates at the Scarlets for the support they have shown me. Scarlets is a club that will always remain close to me and I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at the region.”

And while Williams will be leaving, hooker hooker Emyr Phillips has committed his future to his home region.

Phillips, 29, from Llandovery grew up playing for the town’s junior rugby teams. He joined the Scarlets in 2008 and made his debut in a league match against Ulster in May 2009.

In his Scarlets career to date, he has made 126 appearances, scoring three tries, and scored an excellent solo try on the occasion of his 100th cap against Italian rugby side, Benetton Treviso in September 2014.

Phillips has captained the Scarlets on a few occasions, taking the reins for the first time in an LV= Cup clash against Leicester Tigers in February 2013 and has won three international caps. He made his Welsh debut in the summer of 2013, starting both Tests on the tour of Japan.

A knee injury suffered in the region’s New Year’s Day derby away to Cardiff Blues will keep Phillips sidelined for the remainder of the current season.

Phillips said; “It has been a frustrating couple of season with injuries but I’m delighted to have signed an extension to my contract to remain here at Parc y Scarlets.

“The recovery is going well on the knee injury and I’m very much looking forward to getting a full pre-season under my belt and hit the ground running for the 2016-17 campaign.”
