Pwllheli have now won back-to-back titles after winning once again pipping arch-rivals Nant Conwy. But they had to work hard for the final day win this year after Llandudno threatened to spoil their party.
The North Wales side needed a bonus-point win to overtake Nant Conwy in the league and proceedings in
Llandudno didn’t go as smooth as they would have wished. With 15 minutes to play Llandudno were leading 28-25, but two tries in quick succession hauled Pwllheli back into contention – the second being the all-important bonus-point from David Anwyl.
The visitors managed to grind the game out despite a nervy final few minutes when Llandudno scored a converted try to set up a nail-biting finish.
Penallta ran in 13 tries to demolish bottom-side Blackwood 76-7. Elliot Keep scored a hat-trick on the way to victory securing Penallta’s runners-up spot in the Division 1 East.
Rhydyfelin stormed to their eighth successive bonus-point win beating Risca 26-12. Adam Baker, Fforest Quirke and Mark Wayne all got on the scoresheet.
Ystrad Rhondda came from behind to narrowly beat Heol y Cyw in a Division 1 East-Central thriller. Jarrad Llewellyn crossed over late on after a tense second-half. Dai Gratton was sin-binned for Ystrad which gave Heol a penalty try and a 23-17 lead before Llewellyn’s converted score sneaked Ystrad across the line.
Elsewhere, Mountain Ash edged Gilfach Goch 29-26 in another exciting game in the Division with Treorchy convincingly beating Llanwit Fadre 39-10.
In Division 1 West, Trebanos shocked champions Skewen 39-19 inflict only their second loss of the season. Maesteg Quins were able to shut out bottom-side Pencoed 21-0. Tenby became the only team across Division One not to win a game all season as they agonisingly lost 33-31 to Gowerton.
