With news that the Principality Stadium will be hosting the fanzone for the crucial semi-final of Euro 2016, 20 000 lucky fans have secured tickets to watch the biggest game of football in Welsh history.

All those travelling to the Fanzone are being advised that enhanced security measures will be in operation to enter the stadium. If you bring a bag, expect to be searched and be advised that this may delay you from getting into the stadium on time.

Given the additional security arrangements, the Authorities are advising football fans to leave plenty of time for their journey to get into the city centre and the stadium.

A Spokesman for the City of Cardiff Council, said: “With the short notice given, all of the Authorities are doing their best to ensure that the travel arrangements are in place for people to safely get into the stadium and leave Cardiff afterwards. Please plan your journey, arrive at the stadium early and ensure you know how you are getting home afterwards. “

Westgate Street will close from the junction with Park Street to the junction with Carlisle Street/Cowbridge Road East from 6. 00pm until 11. 30pm. During this time Park Street may also close if there is a health and safety requirement.

As Westgate Street will close from 6.00pm, bus services have been modified. From 3pm all Stagecoach services that normally use Westgate Street, will use Greyfriers Road. From 6. 00pm all outbound Cardiff Bus services that normally use Westgate Street will use Wood Street. All inbound Cardiff Bus Services (35,36,38,38A) that normally drop customers off on Westgate Street, will be dropped off at Wydham Arcade, Lower St Mary Street. All Cardiff Bus Services which normally use the stop by Cardiff Bridge – by the Holiday Inn Hotel – will use St David’s Hospital, Cowbridge Road East.

Park & Ride facilities will not be available for this event, so all those heading towards the stadium are encouraged to use public transport or alternative forms of transport.

After the match has finished Park Street and Scott Road will temporarily close to allow fans out of the Principality Stadium.

Arriva Trains Wales is warning customers that the Cardiff area will be very busy tomorrow in the early evening and extra capacity will be added to timetable services where possible. All those travelling by train are advised to plan ahead and check return plans especially  if the game goes into extra time /penalties – as trains will not be able to be held and services home on certain routes will be extremely limited or non-existent . Queen Street will also close at 9 15pm.

A Spokesman for Arriva Trains Wales, said: “We are pulling out all the stops to add extra capacity to our services despite the late notice for the event. We will not be able to provide the usual additional services that we usually organise for major events in the Principality Stadium due to the planning process required.

“We will have a post queuing system in place at Cardiff Central and we ask in the kindest possible terms that in the interests of the safety of our staff and all customers that use our services, we will not tolerate anti-social behaviour on our network.”
