Versatile back Kieran Meek has been added to their playing squad by head coach Leighton Jones.

Meek can play outside-half, full-back or centre, and the 22-year-old is delighted to have linked up with the Pooler.
He said: “I am hugely excited to be joining one of the leading clubs in Welsh rugby history,” said Meek.

“Pontypool has been a massive club for so many years and I cannot wait to represent the team and its many supporters.

“Having met with the coaching and management staff, the ambition and determination to get the club back to the Premiership is infectious and we absolutely want to bring silverware back to Pontypool Park in the short term.

“I cannot wait for September to come along and to get the season under way.”

Off-the-field Jones has brought in Andrew Quick as defence coach and Simon Church as the club’s new head of strength and conditioning.

Following an impressive playing career that included a spell at Pooler, 33-year-old former scrum-half Quick has embarked on coaching career and has already got stuck right into the action in pre-season training.

“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to come back to Pooler and start this new phase of my rugby career,” said Quick.

“As soon as Leighton explained the current team culture and his vision for where he wanted to take the club, I was extremely keen on getting involved and loved his plan for the future.

“Both myself and Leighton are local lads who are familiar with Pooler and I have a huge appreciation for how much the history and traditions of the club mean to the people of Pontypool.

“I will do everything in my ability to restore the club to where it should be – the Principality Premiership – and I cannot wait to work with this excellent group of players, coaches and management staff.”

Church returns to Pooler having served at the club in the 2013/14 and 2014/15 seasons before moving to the Newport Gwent Dragons’ strength and conditioning department.

But Tom Dickens’ departure from Pooler at the end of last season opened the door for Church’s return.

“I am delighted to be back at Pooler and am grateful to Leighton Jones for the opportunity to lead the club’s strength and conditioning department,” said Church.

“There was certainly a sense of unfinished business from my perspective and I am really excited to be back working with such a committed playing squad and management staff.

“I am looking forward to playing my part to take this great club back where we feel it belongs. I just hope the players are ready for what is coming up!”
