Steve Shingler hopes to keep his unexpected hot-streak going after making an impressive start to life at the Cardiff Blues.

The former Scarlets back scored tries in pre-season fixtures against Newport Gwent-Dragons and Bristol and marked his competitive debut for the Blues with a fine try in the win over Edinburgh.

Shingler controlled the contest for the Blues until the introduction of Wales international Gareth Anscombe in the second half and the 25-year admits enjoying his try-scorer exploits.

He said: “It was lovely to dot down, it’s a nice feeling, I’m on a bit of a streak at the moment which is unusual for me.

“I enjoyed my debut, Edinburgh are a difficult team to break down and it was a good collective performance.

“I did my job until Gareth came on after 50 minutes and we managed to pull through as a team.

“I’m enjoying every minute of being at the Blues so far, there are no negatives and we are on the rise.”

Shingler is ready to challenge Anscombe for the number 10 jersey but insists a Wales call-up is not in his thinking
at the moment.

He is more concerned about nailing down a regular starting spot – at 10 or across the backline – at the BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park.

Shingler added: “If you are in a competitive position like outside-half it’s always going to be tough to hang on to the shirt but I am going to be battling for it and hopefully put the team in good positions when I get the chance.

“If you look at the big teams they often have two or three quality players in each position.

“In my London Irish days I played 40 games at 12 then at the Scarlets most of my games at 10. I love playing 10 at the moment but if I am needed elsewhere I don’t mind playing there.

“(Wales) was not really on my mind when I made the decision, I just wanted to come here with an open mind and do the best I can.
“It’s a been a new lease of life, Danny (Wilson) is very positive and says it’s a new era for the Blues and after doing well at the end of last season it’s a positive place to be.”
