Unbeaten Sir Gar head to Sardis Road

Coleg Sir Gar take their unbeaten record in the WRU Midweek Under 18 League to Sardis Rod for a televised game against Cowbridge CS in Round 5.

Euros Evans’ side were comfortable winners over Cardiff & Vale College, 29-7, last week and find themselves three points clear of the chasing pack in the Cup competition with two matches left to play. A fifth win in a row would keep them on course to reach another final and perhaps regain the title.

Last season they were beaten by Coleg y Cymoedd at the Principality Stadium, but this time they look the strongest team in the tournament – the side everyone else has to beat. Cowbridge have shown flashes of brilliance this season, but fell at the Cymoedd hurdle two weeks ago.

This is their chance of redemption and they will need to supply some quality possession to talented outside half Cai Evans if they are to stand any chance of sparking their strong back division. They have beaten Pembrokeshire College and Cardiff & Vale to date.

Reigning champions Cymoedd can ill afford to slip up at Gwent College if they want to stay on course for another big showdown with Sir Gar. Having lost in Llanelli they are only four points clear of their hosts this week with a final game against Pembrokeshire College to come.

Cardiff & Vale host Pembrokeshire in the other game in this round and Martyn Fowler’s side will be hoping to get back to winning ways after losing three of their last four games to Sir Gar, Cymoedd and Cowbridge. Injuries have ruined their plans this season.

In the Trophy, Ysgol Glantaf will be hoping to end their campaign on a high with a home win over Llandrillo. The north Walians have managed only one win to date and could be in for a tough afternoon.

Glantaf are level on 20 points with unbeaten Newport HS, although they have played one game extra. Newport HS head to Llandovery College for what is likely to prove a tricky challenge for them given the home side have scored 65 points in their last two games and only conceded eight.

Whitchurch HS host Neath & Port Talbot College in the other fixture, a game that the visitors need to win to keep alive their hopes of catching the top two teams.
