“We started well against Argentina but then lost our way in the middle part of the game. However, the boys showed fantastic character, and a great deal of quality play, to gain the win the way they did.
“Fiji was pleasing, as I felt we controlled the majority of that game, but we were hurt with critical moments not being handled as effectively as we would have liked. Fiji don’t need a second chance to punish you and we paid for those errors.
“The boys put in a superbly professional display against Canada and they were clinical both with and without the ball. It’s a credit to the boys for how they’ve applied themselves. We have a very small squad and they’ve integrated superbly well with the young regional players that have come in relatively late to our training environment.
“We’ve pressed the reset button after today, and recovery is key now. The quarter-final against Australia tomorrow will be a fantastic occasion for such a young group.”
