Division 1 East Central leaders Treorchy came into the game unbeaten, but were no match in the end for their hosts, who ran out 36-9 victors. Tries from Ryan Davies, Aeron Bidgood, Matthew Brewer, Elliott Keep and a brace for Lewis Barnett ended any hopes of a trip to the Principality Stadium for the visitors.
A try-double from Jordan Rees helped Rhydyfelin to another convincing win to book their place in the last 16 with a 30-3 victory over Ammanford. Having racked up more than 135 points in the opening two rounds, it was more of the same as they ran in five tries through Rees (2), Stuart Williams, Tom Payne and Luke Studley to maintain their unbeaten record.
Mold needed extra-time to scrape past Llanharan, 20-17, in appalling conditions at the Dairy Field. A penalty from full-back Jack Martin for the north Walians proved the difference between the two sides in extra-time after the score was level at 17-17 on 80 minutes.
Two tries from Mold hooker Ryan Kirby were cancelled out by a penalty try and a score from Huw Thomas for the hosts, before Martin kept his nerve in extra-time to kick the match winning penalty.
Elsewhere, Trebanos dug deep to overcome 2013 winners Heol y Cyw, scoring two tries in the last five minutes to run out 22-16 winners, while 1 North champions Pwllheli came away from West Wales with a hard-fought 29-20 win over Llanelli Wanderers.
Division 1 West leaders Kidwelly were left shocked as they went out to Division 2 East side Croesyceiliog, 27-16. Steve Thomas, David Davies and a penalty try eased the Division 2 outfit to victory, with Haydn Symon scoring 12 points from the boot.
Nant Conwy – losing finalists in 2012 – edged their way into the last 16 with a 10-0 home win against Maesteg Quins. Gwion Ellis-Jones helped himself to a try with a further five points coming from the reliable boot of Delwyn Jones.
In the WRU National Bowl, both of last season’s finalists, Burry Port and Taffs Well eased their way a step closer to the Principality Stadium. Cambrian Welfare, runners-up in 2015, and Wattstown, the 2015 winners, also made it through.
Division 2 North West leaders Denbigh edged out Tonyrefail 17-15 in a see-saw battle. The Division 3 East Central B outfit led on three separate occasions only for the hosts to pull themselves back in front, with tries from Owain Davies and Dan Sully, who also racked up seven points from the tee, the difference.
Taffs Wells kept up their hopes of another trip to the home of Welsh rugby with a 24-9 win over Newport HOSB, while reigning champions Burry Port stayed on course to defend their title after they cruised to a 34-0 win against Tylorstown. Iwan Roberts bagged a brace with Luke Ruddle, Richard Parker and Owen Thomas also getting in on the act.
Cambrian Welfare thumped Birchgrove 21-3 as they set their sights on going one better than they did in 2015, where they finished runners-up. Nathan John and Gavin Wood crossed for tries for the Division 3 East Central A leaders.
Wattstown were made to work as they squeezed past Bangor University 23-16 with Matthew Lewis kicking 13
points. Callum Hutton and a penalty try were their other scores against the university.
Shane Williams’ Amman United side kept up their chances of heading to the Principality Stadium as they swept past Division 3 East Central B basement side St Albans, 39-5.
