The 21-year-old Carmarthen-born pivot, who played in the Champions Cup draw against Saracens last weekend, has scored 28 points in the region’s last two games. He follows another Scarlets academy product, Steff Evans, is opting to build their careers at their home region.
“Playing and representing the Scarlets is something I’ve wanted to do from a very young age. I used to watch Steve Jones play and being able to learn and develop my game under his leadership is a fantastic opportunity for me,” said Jones.
“I’m delighted to have signed a new contract and now hope to repay the coaches for their faith in me with good performances over the coming weeks and months. There’s huge competition in the squad at the moment which is helping us all develop our game and keeping us all on our toes.
“I’m looking forward to the rest of the season as we push on in the PRO12 and to the next few years at the Scarlets.”
Scarlets head coach Wayne Pivac was delighted to secure the singing of the latest homegrown player for the future as he attempts to move the club forward in both the PRO12 and European competition.
“Dan has been patient over the couple of seasons taking his opportunities when they become available. He’s developed as a player both on and off the field and has gained experience whilst also holding his own against some of the most experienced fly halves in world rugby,” said Pivac.
