Williams, 25, joined the Scarlets in 2011 after a blistering season with Llanelli and has been a firm favourite with the region’s supporters, appearing for the 100th time in the European Champions Cup clash against Toulon in December.
Scoring 40 points in 26 appearances in his debut season in 2011, the fullback was nominated for the LV= Breakthrough Player Award and was voted Player’s Player of the Year for the Scarlets. He has scored 26 tries in six seasons with the Scarlets.
Williams will play the remainder of the season at Parc y Scarlets and has expressed his thanks to his colleagues and supporters in the region, saying that he will continue to give his all in the Scarlets jersey as the side fight for a top four spot.
Commenting on his decision Williams, said: “I’m very grateful to the Scarlets for giving me an opportunity to play professional rugby and I’d like to thank everyone for their help and support over the last six years.
“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time at the club, making life-long friends as well as getting the opportunity to develop my game and win international honours.
“We still have it all to play for this season and I will continue to give my all in the Scarlets jersey and will hopefully have an opportunity to play for silverware at the end of the season with what is a great group of boys.”
Jon Daniels, Scarlets General Manager of Rugby, added; “Liam has been an asset to the region and will be missed both on and off the field. He will always be a Scarlet and we thank him for his total commitment and passion for the region.
“We fought hard to retain Liam but having taken everything into consideration including his personal circumstances he has decided to pursue new challenges which we respect totally. We wish him well for the future and look forward to seeing him in action at the Parc, in the remaining few months of the season, in what is expected to be an exciting finish to the PRO12 campaign.”
