Not only is this a game to implement their set game-plan, it will be a chance for them to gain confidence as individuals and as a squad.
Even though the girls lost against England, this will make them stronger! They will have a ruthless desire to prove that they are a good team and with hard work they will be able to rebuild for tomorrow’s game, and the remaining Six Nations gencounters.
There have been several changes in the squad with Rhi [Rhiannon] Parker and Jasmine Joyce gaining their first international caps. The backline selected looks extremely dangerous, with Flip Flop [Rebecca De Filippo] back in the centre, who will make sure her presence is noticed, with her big hits in defence and her powerhouse crash balls and lightning passes in attack.
This will have a positive impact on the backline, as it will create go forward for the speedsters to attack out wide. I’m sure we will see the likes of Wan [Elen Evans] shimmering through the defence and Jasmine making the Scots eat her dust.
Scotland have been going from strength to strength over the past few years and they are not a team who will give up easily.
Friday’s game is going to be physical and after losing in the last seconds of the game against Ireland, they will have gained confidence and developed a feeling that Wales is there for the taking. Both Wales and Scotland lost to their second round opponents by similar margins, so this will also give them belief that they could topple Wales.
For this game I’d like to see Wales keep possession and minimise their kicking. With the back-line Wales have announced, they are more than capable of playing some exciting evasive rugby.
I’d like the forwards to control the scrum and use it to their advantage in attack and defence. In defence the girls need to work as a team and trust their inside player, they need to synchronise their movements and strike as one whole line rather than individuals.
This will be a game to heal wounds and demonstrate robustness. Wales will win at Broadwood Stadium, Glasgow.
