Wales captain Alun Wyn Jones hailed his side’s performance in defeat to England, but urged them to finish the job next time.

Wales looked to be edging to a heroic victory as a Liam Williams try and 11-points from the boot of Leigh Halfpenny had earned a 16-14 advantage. But Elliot Daly finished a swift counter-attack at the corner before Owen Farrell landed the touchline conversion to snatch a 21-16 triumph.

Rob Howley’s men will lick their wounds ahead of their trip to BT Murrafield to take-on Scotland in two weeks time. And Jones wants to see an 80-minute performance next time out.

He said: “It was a 75 minute performance. Hopefully we answered some of our critics with that performance, but not with the result. We will be disappointed with the result. The performance was there for 76 minutes, but unfortunately those at the end cost us.”

Rhys Webb carried for 23 metres and almost scored a crucial try, but was held-up just short. And he feels a lack of composure let Wales down at the crucial moment.

He said: “We were there for 68 minutes, we lost a bit of our composure in the last 10 minutes and aspects go the game didn’t go our way. We know we need to play the full 80 minutes, we’ve talked about this before, but we didn’t.

“We played some great rugby at times, but it was basic errors that crept in for those last 10 minutes. We kicked straight down their neck after being under the pump for 10 minutes, it was little errors like that.

“We defended well all game, our chase wasn’t good enough at the end, that goes back to switching off and we know we can’t do that against team’s like that. The boys were superb, it’s very difficult to take as we didnt deserve that result.”
