Wales have made several changes in their backs but I am pleased to see that Robyn Wilkins remains at fly half and is given an opportunity to grow in her position and distribute the ball quickly to her backline.
Wales’ pack remains the same but are reunited with an experienced front row player on the bench, who is eager to get on the pitch to display her legendary attributes. Cat [Edwards] will instill confidence in the pack and will create a positive and calm environment, which is needed for this game.
I’d like the girls to play some heads up rugby and put their team-mates into space.
They need to make sure that they play rugby in the right areas against France as the forwards are sizeable and physical and the backs are electric. If we play into their strengths then the chants from the French fans willl abrupt around the stadium and act as a 16th player on the pitch for France.
Kicking is an option to help Wales play in the necessary areas but these need to be clinical and if kept in-field there has to be a lightning chase. With a French team you do not want to give them time on the ball as they are able to create points from nothing.
For this game Wales have nothing to lose, they need to go out firing but composed and play some clever rugby.
This team is more than capable of delivering a win, if they believe in themselves and play for each other. They have to remember why they sacrifice social events and put blood, sweat and time into this. It’s for moments like this, it’s to play the game at the highest level possible.
I know what these girls are capable of and am eager for them to show everyone what I know they are capable of doing. It’s time!
