The Scarlets centre highlighted the resolute Welsh wall who restricted the Irish to just nine points.
He said: “It was pretty brutal at times, an unbelievable Test match and I think both teams felt it. To come through with the result is massive for us. There is always pressure on us to perform.
“We just concentrated on ourselves and we came out firing. To score three tries and to keep Ireland out was pleasing. They scored five tries against New Zealand and are one of the best attacking teams in world rugby.
“We kept them to a blank score.Shaun Edwards always says defence wins games and that was the case. To keep a potent attacking team like Ireland to no tries was huge to getting the victory.”
George North’s brace of tries and a late third from Jamie Roberts gave Wales the win as Leigh Halfpenny booted the rest of the points.
Ireland could only muster a response through two Johnny Sexton penalties and one from his temporary replacement Paddy Jackson.
Davies said: “We are very proud when we play at home. The buzz around the camp was pretty positive. We showed we backed the coaches and we got the result.”
Wales travel to Paris next weekend for their final Six Nations game, and Davies reckons Guy Noves’ side will be difficult to break down.
“France have improved hugely in this Six Nations so we know the threat they pose,” he said.
“It’s about making sure we come in Monday ready to perform. Our training work was very good and we will need to focus this week.”
