And the Wales centre has ranked the 27-15 historic semi-final victory over Leinster at the RDS as the best he has experienced in his time at the club. Now he wants to go one better by beating Munster at the Aviva Stadium on Saturday.
“This is the best squad we have had since I’ve been here. We’ve always had a good XV, but now we’ve got big competition for places,” said Williams.
“You can’t win trophies with 15 men and that’s why we believe we can go all the way. We aren’t going to Dublin to make up the numbers.”
Mighty Munster may be 3-1 on to win the title with the Irish bookies but they have already been beaten once this season by Scarlets – at Thomond Park! In fact, the Scarlets have won on three of their five visits to Ireland in the PRO12 this season and Williams is feeling confident about adding to that impressive tally.
“We didn’t get the best of starts to the season, but we have had an incredible run of wins since then. Ever since I was a kid the only team I wanted to play for was the Scarlets and it is nice that we’ve got an opportunity this weekend to win the league,” added Williams.
“It has taken us two or three years to build this squad and it is the best squad we’ve had for 10 years. We have probably been criticised in the past couple of seasons for our forwards not being physical enough, but we have come up against some of the biggest teams in Europe this season and come out on top.
“We’ve got to give the forwards credit for that. As a back line, if you haven’t got a pack of forwards putting you on the front foot it is no good.”
