All the other results went with the home side with reigning champions Pontypool running in seven tries in a 47-19 win over Glynneath to open up a five point gap at the top of the table as the only unbeaten team after three rounds.
Battling Beddau suffered in the mud as they conceded a penalty try and found visiting outside half Jonathan Rogers in fine form as he dropped a goal and kicked two penalties. It was tight and tense throughout with Rogers’ drop goal being cancelled out by the first of two Hywel Chatham penalties to make it 3-3 at the break.
The penalty try gave the Otters the advantage they were looking for, but the home side hit back with a try of their own from Leon Rogers that Chatham converted to level things up at 10-10. Rogers and Chatham then swapped penalties before the visiting No 10 won the try with his final penalty.
Pontypool race into a 33-7 interval lead at home with tries from No 8 Cameron Watson-Boycott, wing Lewis Protheroe, front row duo Jamie Jeaune and Ben Parry and centre Kieran Meek. Outside half Matthew Jones converted four of them and then added the extras to both second half tries from flanker Craig Atwel and centre Clayton Gullis.
With Beddau losing for the first time, Tata Steel were able to move into second place thanks to a five try, 29-13 home win over newly promoted Rhydyfelin. Centre Bleddyn Davies started the ball rolling for the home side, who were 24-6 ahead at the break with a bonus point already in the bag.
Dai Gratton scored all the points for Rhydyfelin with a try, conversion and two penalties and the gallant visitors actually won the second half 7-5 as Tata only added one more try after the break.
Cardiff Met gave new director of rugby Danny Milton a winning start as they beat Newcastle Emlyn 33-20 in Cyncoed. Wales U20 lock Alex Dombrandt was joined on the score sheet by Sean Howard and Luke Northmore, while Tom Morgan kicked 18 points.
Bedlinog piled on the misery for bottom-of-the-table Newbridge as they beat them 36-10. Gareth Davies crossed twice for the home side and there were further tries from Alan Harris and Owain Rees, while Dan Parry kicked the rest of the points.
Skewen had two tries from Dai Morgan to thank for their bonus point win over newly promoted Trebanos. Andrew Collins and Matthew Billet also crossed to ensure a bonus point in a 34-20 victory.
