Jess and Beth go on try rout for Caernarfon

The final 22-94 score line may suggest a comfortable passage for Caernarfon against Seven Sisters but the forwards knew they had been in a tight tussle throughout in order to provide ball that the rampant back line could use to mesmerise the opposition backs.

The first points of this league encounter were scored and added to by Beth Davies who took at pace to split the defence to score. Seven Sisters replied almost immediately with a tried and trusted lineout move bringing reward to Number 8 Carole-Ann Burt out wide.

Caernarfon extended their lead a few minutes later when a telling move from deep via Teleri Davies, Beth Davies and Jenny Davies eventually found young winger Leah Roberts whose agile footwork avoided the efforts to halt her progress to score her first senior team try.

She then became the provider to release Beth Davies for her second of the afternoon that she again converted. A Hannah Mai Jones interception nearly saw Seven Sisters claw their way back into contention but the Cofis capitalised almost immediately when a Iona Evans break found Elen Evans at hand to nudge Caernarfon further ahead.

Caernarfon were then gifted a try when a back pass from a scrum went astray and scrum half Jess Kavanagh Williams seized the opportunity to score beneath the posts.

Beth Davies maintained her 100% conversion account by adding the extras and later added to Kavanagh-Williams’s next score when she was at hand to take the final pass following an Elen Evans break to score on the stroke of halftime.

There was no let up in Caernarfon’s approach from the restart, Kavanagh-Williams  broke clear to ground as did Elen Evans when in close support to Rachel Taylor minutes later.

Seven Sisters strived to get back into contention with a solid Beth Harvey tackle lifting the spirits. However an interception by centre Molly Shuttleworth saw her sprint all of 60 meters to score. Thankfully the home crowd had something to cheer when incisive hooker Tara Finnegan picked up and drove with commitment to score out wide mid way through the half.

The reprieve was however short lived as the good approach work of Claire Wright led to Beth Davies finding space to surge to the try line on two occasions in quick succession.

Yet again Seven Sisters refused to bow with a Kelsey Jones cover tackle on Rachel Taylor a testament to their all round commitment. This upped the forwards to galvanise their resources with another lineout move called and marshalled by Bethan Howell leading to Tara Finnegan scoring her second try of the day in identical circumstances to their opening score.

Menna Preece drove purposefully to hopefully find a gap in Caernarfon’s rearguard but a downfield kick taken by Beth Davies at pace led to another Caernarfon try as her well timed pass found Kavanagh-Williams in support to round off under the sticks.

Busy Rachel Rees who had strived to vary her play at stand off eventually got close and a series of drives finally culminated in scrumhalf Kathryn Stevenson grounding against the upright to gain Seven Sisters a fully deserved bonus point. Rachel Rees duly added the conversion.

Caernarfon however had the final say when Kavanagh-Williams beat the cover on the outside to score her fifth of the day. Beth Davies also equalled that feat together with slotting 12 of the 14 conversions on offer.

The Cofis returned home with a broad smile on all faces with Seven Sisters hoping to regroup and build on the commitment and powerful forward play already at their disposal.
