The 23-year-old has graduated from the Principality Premiership, where he has been playing with Cardiff, to the Dragons after a series of impressive performances this season. He linked up with his new team mates at their Ystrad Mynach training base this week ahead of the opening European Challenge Cup tie against Newcastle Falcons this weekend.
Capable of playing in the second and back rows, the 6ft 5in, 16st 11lbs Sheekey came through the ranks at the Blues into the Academy and played for Wales Under 20 in 2014. Among his international team mates that year were current Dragons players Ashton Hewitt, Tyler Morgan, Elliot Dee and James Benjamin.
Sheekey made six appearances for the Blues senior team in Anglo Welsh Cup games and also appeared for the regions Premier Select XV in the B&I Cup. He has made 36 appearances for the Cardiff club side.
“James is a very tough, abrasive and hard-working back row forward who also can play lock. He is someone that I believe will thrive in our environment and as coaches we are all looking forward to helping him develop,” said Dragons head coach, Bernard Jackman.
