Champion performance from Sir Gar

Coleg Sir Gar put themselves back in the frame for a semi-final place in the Welsh Schools & Colleges League with a 33-13 win over Neath Port Talbot College at The Gnoll.

It was a gutsy performance from the reigning champions, who moved into the top four as a result of their triumph and severely dented NPTC’s chances of reaching the play-offs. The home side took a sixth minute lead with a try from a close range line-out by hooker Garin Lloyd.

They held onto their lead for 25 minutes before a wonderful offload out of contact by flanker Gethin Davies in the shadow of the posts allowed Sam Williams to cross for a converted try that edged Sir Gar into a 7-5 lead.

NPTC conjured up a great overlap try for right wing Kyle Jones at the end of the first half as he was set free by his full back to race over for a great score.

Sir Gar scrum half Dai Jones then snapped up a try early in the second half as he pounced on a loose ball after a strong forward drive ended inches short and the conversion made it 14-13 to the visitors. Jones then sent lock Ryan Evans crashing over from close range to extend the lead.

Centre Joe Roberts powered through a stretched defence for the bonus point try and the win was rounded off with a 60 metre special as Llew Smith was sent racing to the posts by his replacement half-back partner Dylan Morgan.
