The west Walians edged out star-studded Toulon 30-27 in front of a record European crowd of 14,476 in Llanelli to book their place in the last eight for the first time since 2007.
Pivac’s side will face La Rochelle at Parc Y Scarlets in an eagerly anticipated quarter-final with the winner travelling to face the winner of Leinster against Saracens in the semi-finals.
“It was a very important night for this ground, hopefully we will now get more support,” said Pivac.
“We had great support and it was really important for the future to come away with the win.
“It is a little bit of history for this team, we want to create our own history and the boys are working hard towards that.
“We had set some goals as a team. We want to be in the play-offs to try and do well again in the PRO14, but the next frontier was always to crack the play-offs for the European Champions Cup and the players were desperate to do that.
“After a slow start in rounds one and two, I think it has just been a fantastic effort to win all four, which is what we had to do.”
And the former Auckland coach believes his side’s exploits in last season’s Guinness PRO12 play-offs will stand his players in good stead come the quarter finals.
“I think we take a lot of heart out of last year’s (PRO12) semi-final playing away from home and doing it under the circumstances we had to with 14 men for a large part of the game and going to the final and playing well,” said Pivac.
“We will also take encouragement out of the Bath game and also out in Toulon where we gave them an 18-point start and clawed it back.”
