The game, which was played one of Murrayfield’s artifical pitches yesterday morning, saw nine tries in all: five of them by the young men in red (four of which came in the second half).Â
A try by number eight Ioan Davies and a conversion and penalty from fly-half Luke Scully meant Wales trailed 15-10 at half-time, but a flurry of second-half scores were well-earned thanks to their willingness to play an expansive game.
Tries by centre Joe Roberts, openside Jac Morgan and replacement back Josh Thomas put Wales into a good position, but the hosts still led 30-27 with four minutes to go. Â
The final blow to the Scots came via Wales wing Harri Doel, who crossed in the last minute of play to give his side a two-point lead and secure the victory. Â
“The players were able to solve the problems they encountered in the first half, which was very satisfying,” said coach Lewis. “Scotland are a competitive and energetic side, so the result and the performance gave us lots of learning and positives to build on for the rest of season.
“IÂ know we can and need to get better, but we’ve given almost our entire squad their first taste of U18 international rugby, which they’ll be all the better for.”
