Danny Wilson’s men travel to the San Mames Stadium in Bilbao to face Gloucester knowing victory would seal the region’s first silverware since 2010.

At 37 and with 129 Wales caps under his belt, Jenkins is still going strong and is enjoying every moment as his career reaches its final stages.

Jenkins is currently carrying a calf injury and faces a race against time to be fit for the final, but said: “Sometimes as an older player you ask yourself am I done here?

“But you are a long time retired and we will all thrive on going to play in a big final in Bilbao.

“We have been building towards this for the last three years and there are a lot of players who have come through who are now comfortable playing at this level.

“In the back of our minds will be how we fell apart in the last half hour against Gloucester in the quarter-final last year, but I’d like to think we have moved forward since then.

“Our defensive system has made huge strides because we wanted to put some pride back into that area. It is a very happy dressing room right now.”

Jenkins has penned a one-year contract extension with the Blues and victory over the Cherry and Whites would represent the latest achievement in what has been a stellar career.

Wilson’s men are on the verge of European glory and victory would be a fine note for Wilson to end his time in charge of the Blues.

With Jenkins leading their charge, the Blues have every chance of returning from Spain with the Challenge Cup trophy.

“The Pau win in the semi-final shows how far we have come as a team,” said Jenkins.

“The games are what drive me on and what I will miss most when I finish is preparing for a game and then the routine of getting ready on a match day to perform as best you can.

“It will be a great occasion for all the fans and players in Bilbao and we’re looking forward to it.”
