The 23-year-old was a star performer as Warren Gatland’s men claimed a 22-20 victory over the Springboks in Washington D.C. But the Cardiff Blues man will face a tough challenge to keep hold of his starting position with Scarlets scrum half Gareth Davies available for selection against Argentina this weekend.
“You always want to keep hold of the shirt but there’s a lot of competition so I will keep working hard,” said Williams.
“It is always nice to get a try but the win was more important. I think it was a good performance overall.
“It’s the first time Wales have ever beaten South Africa on foreign soil so we are pretty happy. The weather conditions made it a scrappy game.
“We had a good patch the second period of the first half where we played some good rugby and got on the scoreboard.”
Williams is hoping to build on his impressive Wales debut with a couple of strong performances in Argentina.
Warren Gatland sees the two test tour as an opportunity to build some strength in depth for the 2019 Rugby World Cup.
“I never played against Argentina at age grade level so I am looking forward to this opportunity,” said Williams.
“They have some really big boys and are very similar to South Africa. So it is going to be a tough challenge but one we are looking forward to.”
