“It was a fantastic weekend of sevens,” said head coach Jonathan Hooper. “There were plenty of positive moments, and as a learning experience it’s something we’ll look to take forward into the next tournament.”
Despite day one losses to the hosts, then Ireland and England, Wales were able to claim third place overall thanks to a good performance against the hosts on day two.Â
Perhaps because of their age, Hooper says the players were able to absorb a lot of new information in a short space of time. “The team improved so much over the two days,” Hooper said, “and after a couple of close losses, I was glad they were able to finish with a well-deserved victory – one that came as a result of a great team performance.”
Wales will now head into the next leg of the tournament at Birmingham University on 21st-22nd July with optimism.Â
