Dan Biggar made his debut for Northampton Saints against his former club, but couldn’t get among the scorers as the visitors ran out 26-13 victors.

The Wales and British & Irish Lions outside half came on for the second half of the opening pre-season friendly and missed with his only kick at goal and also kicked one touch-finder dead to raise some ironic cheers in the crowd.

Saints, under new New Zealand coach Chris Boyd, paraded seven new signings, including England and Lions flanker James Haskell, and were far sharper than the Ospreys. They dominated possession and scored four tries.

The only try for the home side came in the closing moments when replacement hooker Ifan Phillips burrowed over the line from a driving line-out. James Hook landed a touchline conversion to add to two first half penalties from Sam Davies.
