Evans’ hard work has paid off – Mulvihill

Cardiff Blues head coach John Mulvihill believes Jarrod Evans will embrace the Wales dream he has worked so hard to make a reality.

The 22-year-old was called into the Under Armour Series squad ahead of the Scotland opener with Dan Biggar unlikely to be available and Rhys Patchell working his way through return to play protocols.

Evans earnt his call with a string of eye catching performances in the Blues no.10 jersey and will now link back up with regional teammates Gareth Anscombe and Tomos Williams. In four Guinness PRO14 games so far this season, Evans has made 63 metres, made three clean breaks and amassed 21 points from the kicking tee.

The youngster’s fearless attacking style has helped the Blues backline click into gear this season. And Mulvihill reckons his young star can bring something different to the party when Scotland come to Cardiff on November 3.

He said: “We’re absolutely delighted with Jarrod, we’re very proud he will take part in the match day 23 next week. He’s a great young kid who works really hard and he deserves his spot and his chance at the highest level.

“He’s got a bit of spunk about him and he works really hard on his game whether that’s on or off the field. He thinks about it a lot, he’s a great talent and probably a little different from the other guys there. Jarrod is not the safe and conservative type, he is prepared to roll the dice, and that is probably what the Wales backline needs moving forward.

“Gareth Anscombe looks set to start at 10 so I’m hoping both those boys can contribute to a Welsh win next week against Scotland.”
