The 26-year-old received the call up to Warren Gatland’s squad for the 2018 Under Armour Series this week after a blistering start to the season.
Despite his outstanding form, the former Wales Sevens star admits he was left stunned by his selection
“I didn’t believe it until I saw the photo of the selected side and saw my name there. It was a great feeling,” Morgan said.
“I went over to my grandparents’ house and there were a lot of tears — tears of joy. They were both crying.
“My grandad is a massive rugby fan who played a bit for Cwmavon back in the day and he’s passionate about the sport. He has followed me since I’ve been playing rugby and so it was understandable he was emotional.
“He was a bit taken aback by my selection, as were the whole family. They couldn’t believe it.
“My family have backed me from day one, taking me to training and to games. When I’ve been unable to drive, they’ve been there.
“So it’s just nice for them and a great honour for me.”
The Bridgend born star has taken an unconventional route to the top having starred in the Principality Premiership before showcasing his talent on the Sevens circuit where he became Wales’ record try scorer.
But after Ospreys coach Allen Clarke gave him an opportunity this season, he hasn’t looked back.
“I’ll be honest, last year or the year before, I didn’t think I’d be where I am now,” he said.
“I thought I would finish my career with Wales Sevens and I’d then go into an everyday job. But an opportunity came up with the Ospreys. It’s happened quicker than I thought.
“I felt I’d have one or two games before George North and the others would go away for the autumn Tests with Wales and I might slot in. But I was given a chance against Munster and it’s just gone really well since.”
