Still 18, Lucy has been involved with the senior sevens set-up for the past 18 months. Having shone in a Dyffryn Aman side who won the Rosslyn Park 7s as a 17 year old, Lucy went on to win bronze for Wales U18 Sevens at the Youth Commonwealth Games before graduating to the senior side at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games at the Paris and Hong Kong Sevens as well as Rugby Europe events.
Jonathan Hooper’s side take on South Africa at 8.40am local time followed by teams from Kazakhstan and Japan on Day One.
Hooper said, “Lucy was the obvious choice as captain. She is well-equipped to lead, inspire and support this young group. Her professional attitude and thirst for learning is inspirational and I know that Lucy will lead by example and give her all for the team.
“We are happy with our preparation this week, we have a talented young squad and the key thing for us is to give these players the chance to train and play at a high level to develop them for the future.”
