Welsh rugby fan, Countdown legend, mathematician and qualified pilot Vorderman was brought up in Prestatyn by Welsh mother Edwina and went to school in Rhyl. She sits on the Challenger Center Board to promote maths, engineering and science and recently collaborated with NASA Director Dr Hartman on a space project.
The pair surprised the Wales Women team at their team run at Cardiff Arms Park earlier today.
Wales Women captain Carys Phillips said, “It was a massive surprise and insane to be presented with our match shirts by two hugely inspirational women who have achieved so much in their fields.
“Carol told us she’s so pleased there are many more opportunities for women and girls in sport now compared to when she was growing up in Wales and Dr Hartman explained how barriers have been broken down for women at NASA.
“It was a special experience and it’s given us such a lift ahead of our game tomorrow.”
WRU Community Director Geraint John added, “We just wanted to do something special for the girls ahead of their final game against Ireland tomorrow. Carol is a huge Welsh rugby fan and both women have achieved so much in their areas of expertise within science, space exploration and broadcasting. They were honoured to present the match shirts and the girls were bowled over.”
Wales Women take on Ireland at Cardiff Arms Park at 1.30pm on Sunday.
