Warren Gatland’s record breakers have gone 12 games undefeated to keep their hopes of a first Guinness Six Nations title in six years well and truly alive, with a difficult trip to Murrayfield to come this Saturday.
Six of Wales’ seven tries so far this campaign have been finished by one of Parkes’ colleagues in the backline, but he believes they are ready to cut loose in Edinburgh.
“I think there is more to come from the backs,” said Parkes. “You look at our back three when they get little sniffs they are creating opportunities. It’s about making sure we can execute the opportunities we create.
“I think in terms of a back division to me we’re only just getting started. We’re definitely going in the right direction and we’re improving every week which is good.
“Hopefully we can go out there and put in a good performance against Scotland.”
Parkes was mobbed in his local supermarket after helping Wales claim their colossal triumph over England at Principality Stadium two weeks ago. However, he acknowledges there is plenty of work still to be done.
Wales have won 11 out of their last 12 meetings with Scotland, but tasted defeat the last time they visited BT Murrayfield in the Guinness Six Nations.
But Parkes says this group of players have a special bond that will serve them well as they continue to develop their winning habit in a Rugby World Cup year.
“Everything is building, there are no cliques within the team and everyone gets on very well off the field,” added Parkes.
“Everyone is pretty good mates and you want to work hard for your mates next to you but you also don’t want to let them down.
“Whoever gets the opportunity to wear the jersey want to do a good job because it is a whole squad mentality and it’s going great at the moment. Everyone is enjoying being in here and it’s a great environment to be involved in.”
