Josh Navidi and Cory Hill joined staff at the WRU ticket office to help cope with an overwhelming show of support largely generated by their own heroics.
Early indications point to two summer sell-outs with tens of thousands of supporters already having snapped up tickets – which are priced at £20, £30, £40, £60 and £70 (£10 U16s, available across more than half the seats in the ground) here https://www.eticketing.co.uk/principalitystadium/.
Dragons lock Hill scored a ‘team’ wonder try in the 67th minute against England – the result of a stunning 34-phase passage of play – during Wales’ march to a third Six Nations clean sweep under head coach Warren Gatland.
“It’s been a pleasure to speak to a few supporters today on the phones and in the ticket office today, Welsh rugby fans are the best in the world and they showed it once again with their support for us during the Six Nations,” said Hill.
“We knew they were right behind us every step of the way, just as they will be when we are back at Principality Stadium this summer to face both England and Ireland as the squad prepares for Japan.”
Navidi, who won man-of-the-match for his second round display against Italy and played in every match of the Grand Slam, agrees supporters play a vital role in any Wales campaign.
“You can’t overstate the impact supporters can have, during the Six Nations they played their part in every victory and the atmosphere on the final weekend against Ireland was incredible,” he said.
“If we can recreate anything like that again this summer the squad will go to the World Cup in Japan with the sound of a capacity Principality Stadium ringing in its ears.
“Speaking to some supporters today buying tickets reminds you that winning the Six Nations has given everyone in Welsh rugby a lift, it’s up to us all now to keep that momentum going this summer and beyond.”
The 2019 Guinness Six Nations Grand Slam champions host England in Cardiff on Saturday 17th August at 2.15pm and Ireland on Saturday 31st August at 2.30pm.
We are expecting two bumper crowds to give our Grand Slam heroes the send-off they deserved before they head off to the World Cup in Japan, with the hopes and expectations of a nation behind them
Wales, who achieved their highest World Rugby ranking (2nd) on the back of a record fourteen match winning streak and their third Grand Slam under head coach Warren Gatland this winter, expect both matches to reach capacity as the country unites behind its national side ahead of the Japan 2019 Rugby World Cup.
The equivalent 2019 Guinness Six Nations clashes sold-out before public sale (England) or within hours of reaching it (Ireland) before Christmas, long before Gatland and his charges completed their Grand Slam hat-trick.
“After Wales’ Grand Slam heroics demand for the Under Armour Summer Series is expected to be extremely high and early indications are that both games will sell-out,” added a WRU spokesperson.
“The beauty of winning the Slam in a Rugby World Cup year is that we get to watch Wales at home again in the summer and we couldn’t have asked for two better fixtures to celebrate the 2019 Six Nations Championship win than England and Ireland.
“We are expecting two bumper crowds to give our Grand Slam heroes the send-off they deserved before they head off to the World Cup in Japan, with the hopes and expectations of a nation behind them.”
