The Scarlets need to claim maximum points against the Dragons at the Principality Stadium while they also need Glasgow to beat Edinburgh to progress to a Champions Cup qualification play-off. Pivac’s side also have an outside chance of making it into the Guinness PRO14 play-offs but it would require Zebre to overcome Benetton.
With the stakes having never been higher Davies is highly motivated for regional rugby’s showpiece event.
“We’ve got to take care of what’s in our control and make sure we deliver a performance,” said the 31-year-old.
“Hopefully the performance will warrant the result we need and then we’re reliant on other teams to do us a favour. It’s not the scenario we want to be in, but unfortunately that’s where we’re at.
“You grow as a local especially and you see when Llanelli had the big European days. Since we’ve been a region as well we’ve had big European days too and those are the ones you remember and chat about. That (Champions Cup) is the competition we want to be in.”
Despite being favourites on Saturday Davies has warned his Scarlets side not to underestimate a Dragons side desperate to claim their first ever Judgement Day win.
“It is very important we get there, but the first thing that comes with is making sure we get the result on Saturday to put as much pressure as we can on our other opponents in the league,” he said.
“We’ve got to respect the Dragons. They’re a dogged team, they front up always, and we have to make sure we bring tempo and play the way we want to play.”
