In fact, the Cardiff Blues startlet rather enjoys his Dad, Gareth’s, post-match critiques, even though the great man was a second row rather than a three quarter. After winning 92 caps, playing at three World Cups and coaching at Neath, he does know a thing or two about the game, though!
“My Dad has always been great with me. He likes to debrief me after every game and everything I know comes from him,” said Llewellyn.
“I have encouraged him to do that and when I analyse stuff it always seems to have come from something he told me.”
Llewellyn senior won the first of what was a record Welsh cap haul at the time against New Zealand in 1989 while he was the same age as Max currently is. But what they do both have in common is they have both won the WRU National Cup.

Gareth picked up his first title when Neath beat Llanelli in 1989 and 30 years later Max helped Cardiff to win the same trophy for the seventh time when they overcame Merthyr at Principality Stadium at the end of April.
“It has been a good season for me so far. I started with the Blues A team, then played for Cardiff and winning the Welsh Cup. I’d played at Principality Stadium before for Cardiff Schools and in a Schools Cup final, but that was a great experience,” said Max.
“I played at the World U20 Championships last year and was in the side that lost to Argentina. So, to beat them on their own patch was a nice feeling.
“We are a tight-knit squad and everyone is willing to work for each other. That’s what helped us to get over the line against Argentina in our opening match – now we’ve got to believe we can get the job done against the French in our next match.”
Another son of a famous father, Ospreys outside half Cai Evans, is also making a big impression as he follows in some big footsteps. His 20 points in Rosario on Tuesday night guided Wales to a superb victory and took his tally of points for Wales U20 to 126 in 16 games.
