The Scarlets endured a disappointing campaign last time out but have an exciting new back-room team led by experienced Super Rugby winning coach Brad Mooar of the Crusaders. And former Springboks tight-head prop Kruger is excited at the potential at what lays under Mooar.
“There are exciting times ahead for the Scarlets with a new coaching team coming in,” said the 34-year-old.
“The full coaching staff will all have arrived by next week. The real excitement will hit the squad as we head into August and the games get nearer.
“I think we lacked consistency last season. We would put in a great performance and then back it up with a bad one so we need to put that right this season.
“We also had a lot of injuries throughout last season which didn’t help our cause. We’ve got a great coaching group and some excellent young players coming through so we’re looking forward to hopefully having a successful season.”
The Scarlets will be without a large amount of their international contingent for periods of next season due to the World Cup and the Six Nations. But Kruger has every faith in the depth of the Scarlets squad and is excited to see some of the regions younger talent grab their opportunities.
“I think our youngsters will be crucial especially during the World Cup period,” he said. “Some of the Wales Under 20s youngsters coming will do well next season I’m sure. I’m looking forward to seeing how they cope and how they adjust to the PRO14.
“It’s up to the more experienced players like myself, Johnny McNicholl, Steff Hughes and Mark Jones to take leadership of the group and guide the younger players.”
