The Week in Welsh Rugby

As we build up to Wales’ RWC squad announcement this Sunday, we take a look back at the past week in Welsh rugby…

At Friday’s Captain’s Run at Principality Stadium, back-rower Josh Navidi met the assembled press and discussed taking on the captaincy for the Ireland game.

We were reminded by Warren Gatland how difficult delivering the RWC selection message to a player can be. Wales’ head coach also described the various options available to the players regarding that delivery.

Rhys Carré described the past six months as “a whirlwind”. Speaking from Turkey, the 21-year-old loosehead who makes his international debut this weekend against Ireland, the Cardiffian talks about his move to Saracens and his call-up to Wales’ RWC training squad.

Meanwhile, Carré and Owen Lane both spoke of their shared rugby journey – one which started almost ten years ago – as both get set to win their first caps together.

Fans got another insight into Wales’ brutal ‘heat camp’ in Antalya. This video gave viewers an insight into just how hard the players have been pushing themselves in order to be on the plane to Japan.

Wales Women U18 7s named their squad for this weekend’s Rugby Europe tournament in Poland. They’ll take on Belgium, Ukraine and England in their pool. Jonathan Hooper’s young guns “have really grown as a squad and are looking forward to stepping up another level this weekend”, according to the coach.
