George North and Rhys Patchell celebrate Sunday's triumph in Tokyo.

Wales travelled from Tokyo to Otsu via bullet train on Monday with wing George North telling his side they have much more still to achieve at the Rugby World Cup in Japan.

Warren Gatland’s side made it two wins from two in the tournament so far with a famous and thrilling 29-25 victory over Australia at Tokyo Stadium.

The Wallaby clash – which followed a 43-14 opening success against Georgia – was Test rugby at its best with no quarter given and the game played at a relentless and entertaining pace.

In the end tries from Hadleigh Parkes and man of the match Gareth Davies and 14 points from the boot of replacement fly-half Rhys Patchell saw Wales home.

“It’s a big result for us, but I don’t think we can get too carried away,” North said.

“We’ve got Fiji coming next and we know how well they performed in the first round. From our point of view we have a couple more days to recover this time and then we’re back into it.

“What a day. We knew this was going to be the biggest test for us of the two so far. Georgia was a big challenge for us and we had to wipe ourselves down for what we had to do.

“We clawed out a result. In the first half I thought we were excellent and we probably came off the gas a little bit again in the second.

“The substitutes came on and made a huge impact for us so from our point of view it’s now two from two and we’ve got a decent spell now for some recovery before we move on to Fiji next.”

Wales’ players will have some time to rest and recover from their brutal and exhausting clash with Australia as they don’t face Fiji until a week on Wednesday.

At the full-time whistle in Tokyo, North was captured on a TV camera kissing captain Alun Wyn Jones as Wales’ players celebrated their success.

Jones became Wales’ record cap holder against Australia by winning his 130th cap, overtaking the previous best which was held by legendary prop Gethin Jenkins.

“After that performance the emotions were high and he (Jones) is a passionate man! He’s bigger than me as well,” North laughed. “I can’t speak any higher of the man.

“To make it to 130 caps today is amazing and as a leader and a man he’s exceptional with what he does for us. He does so much for us on and off the field. He deserves all the accolades he gets.”

Jones responded: “I think George’s wife is safe, put it that way! We were excited at the end and it’s important you share those moments with players, but not always like that.

“I’m sure there will be some memes made out of it!”
