Wales face the Barbarians at the Principality Stadium on November 30 with Warren Gatland in charge of the invitational side.
With over 50,000 tickets having already been sold it proves to be a great occasion for the new Wales coaching team to get started ahead of the Six Nations.
“We’ve talked long and hard about how we’re going to add value to what is already a successful rugby team,” said Pivac.
“Everything we’re doing, we’re throwing that question at it: Are we adding value?
If something is not broken then we move on.
“The beauty of being in this position behind the scenes for 12 months now is that it’s given me plenty of time to have lots of meetings, discuss a lot of rugby issues with a lot of people and get the views of many. Then we add that into a pool of information so we can make some good decisions going forward.
“We definitely want to evolve the game with the ball, it’s something that we’re going to try and do. This is a game where people can look forward to good old fashioned running rugby, certainly from the Barbarians.
“We’ll be looking to play our part in the game but within the structures we put in place. I think these are great games. Everyone looks forward to them. It looks like we have a great crowd coming along.”
Pivac has selected an exciting 35 man squad which includes five uncapped players in the shape of Johnny McNicholl, Willis Halaholo, Shane Lewis-Hughes, Taine Basham and Ashton Hewitt. And the former Scarlets coach believes this is a golden opportunity for players to put their hands up for World Cup selection.
“I personally know a lot about Johnny McNicholl obviously and I had Willis in the Auckland age groups when I was coaching there, so I know his background,” said Pivac. “They’re both exciting attacking players.
“It’s an opportunity for us to get Willis in for a week and have a look at him. We spoke to him earlier in the season about parts of his game we like and parts we think he can work on.
“Both Taine Basham and Shane Lewis-Hughes are exciting young talents. They’ve had a successful time in the development programme we have here and both are playing senior rugby for their regions.
“Both have caught the eye. I was at the Dragons game on the weekend with Jonathan Humphreys and it wasn’t a bad time to score three tries as a youngster!”
