The arrival of Storm Chiara could make for tricky conditions in the Irish capital but whatever happens, captain Jones says he and the rest of Wayne Pivac’s team will be well prepared.
“There is no truer test than coming here,” he said. “Hopefully we are not talking too much about the weather or dwelling on it after the game.
“It could be glorious sunshine – we will wait and see. It is very easy to say we are going to do this or that without playing the environment. That’s not what we are paid to do as players.
“We are paid to make decisions, adapt, and problem-solve. There is your platinum game and sometimes you have got to be able to step down and adjust to the bronze game.
“You have to have A, B and potentially C at times. Everybody likes to go out and have a bit of running rugby, but at Test level it’s what suits your opposition first and then the environment.”
Last season’s Grand Slam and Triple Crown winners Wales started the 2020 tournament with a 42-0 bonus-point win over Italy and scored five tries in the process.
Ireland will be a tougher challenge as Wales haven’t won a Six Nations game in Dublin since 2012.
Pivac has made one XV change for the game with Saracens centre Nick Tompkins coming in for his first Test start.
He replaces George North who moves back to the wing with Johnny McNicholl dropping to the bench.
Rhys Carre, Adam Beard, Gareth Davies and Owen Williams are also among the replacements.
“The Italy result was a huge positive, but there is plenty to work on for what is a much tougher ask,” Jones said. “We’re aware of the win-loss rate and the calibre of player Ireland have.
“It’s always a tough ask and a great occasion with the Irish and Welsh fans.”
