Justin Tipuric scored a stunning length-of-the-field try in the narrow defeat to England at Twickenham last weekend as Wales showcased more promising attacking intent.
The Guinness Six Nations champions have the opportunity to end their 2020 campaign on a high at Principality Stadium against a Scotland side buoyed by their victory over France. But Elias is confident Wales can deliver a complete performance to finish strong.
“We’ve seen improvements week on week and had a good buy-in across the campaign,” he said. “The trust is there but it’s just little things holding us back at the moment, like we might be a little bit flat or when we’ve got a team on the ropes, we haven’t punished them.
“We saw glimpses of our progress on the weekend with that try at the start of the second-half, it’s very exciting the direction we’re going.
“We’re not far off, we know we want to get the win but we have to stick to the plan. It’s been proven, the system works, when we’ve played well we’ve seem glimpses of the system working.”
Elias has featured in every Guinness Six Nations game off the bench this season but is hoping to continue his progress with a start. Wales have emerged victorious in 12 of their last 13 meetings with Scotland, and haven’t been beaten at home by Stuart Hogg and Co. since 2002.
The two Celtic nations have fought some unforgettable battles in recent years, and Elias is expecting another thrilling encounter.
“Scotland had a good win over the French so they will be coming down to us wanting to get another,” he added. “I think it will be an exciting battle, one we’re all looking forward to, but we just have to play our way, trust in the systems and hopefully we’ll get it right.
“We all know how important this game is for us because we don’t want to lose four on the bounce.”
