The Scarlets loosehead is determined to mark his comeback with a victory against England to right the wrongs of their Guinness Six Nations defeats against France and Ireland. And Evans is ready to do battle with the Red Rose after fighting his way back into the Wales starting XV.
“It feels good to be starting again. It’s been a while since I’ve pulled on the number one jersey for Wales and I’m looking forward to it,” he said. “But it’s just been like any other week really, making sure I’ve got my prep right – all that has gone pretty well so I’m looking forward to it.
“It’s been a bit of a tough year with one thing or an other, but I’ve just kept my head down and kept working hard and hopefully it will go right on the weekend. It’s a nice one to come back to, I love playing against the English. It’s going to be a tough test up in Twickenham as it always is but what a way to come back in.
“There’s been a bit of chat about the Championship not being there for us to win anymore but this is the start of a new era and we felt we left quite a lot of opportunities out there against France.
It would be nice to put some of those things together and finish them off on Saturday.”
England still hold hopes of a Championship triumph, but need France to slip up if they are to reclaim the trophy.
Those hopes may have fizzled out for Evans and Wales after Les Bleus edged a thriller at Principality Stadium two weeks ago. But Evans reckons they can make some of those missed chances stick at the home of the Red Rose to ensure they get the rewards they deserve.
“Obviously we’re disappointed after our last two defeats. We lost against France but we left opportunities out there so it’s very exciting for us,” he added.
“England are always a formidable side, and they are on good form so they’re up there with the best sides in the world.
“The buzz is brilliant, it’s the game everyone talks about and the game everyone picks out on the calendar. It’s a great challenge and exciting for people like me coming back into the team.”
