As for most people at the moment, life has changed dramatically for Olympian Jasmine Joyce and her fellow Wales Women team mates since the outbreak of Covid-19. The dream of competing at another Olympic Games has been put on hold but the West Walian winger has put the news into perspective.

“Tokyo had been my dream for four years – almost since stepping off the plane from Rio.

“I was gutted of course, but postponing the Olympics was absolutely the right thing to do – for the health and safety of everyone from supporters to workers and the athletes themselves. It just wasn’t possible to envisage performing at your very best when you can’t train to your full potential.

“Having said that, from a personal point of view and as far as my team mates are concerned, I know we are doing everything we can to stay as fit and strong as possible for whenever rugby resumes.

“We have had personalised schedules to follow from our strength and conditioning team which is great because you don’t have to think too much then about what to do when.

“I’ve been working on my speed too and we complete daily and weekly challenges.

“I follow Alecs Donovan’s yogability classes, along with a lot of the other players and we’re all motivating each other which really helps.

“I’m a bit worried about my strength as there’s only so much you can do in that respect but we’re all in the same position and we’re doing what we can.”

Away from the field, Jazz is also keeping busy.

“I work for David Lloyd gyms so like many people we’ve been furloughed for the time being. But I’ve just bought a house so when I’m not training I’ve been painting and sorting the house out.

“I haven’t stopped really and I wouldn’t want it any other way – while taking the appropriate measures to stay safe of course.”
