Delaney has succeeded Brad Mooar as the man in charge in Llanelli, but he is yet to command his new team in action due to the impact of coronavirus.
That will change on Saturday when the Scarlets host Cardiff Blues. The game will be the first PRO14 rugby in Wales in five months.
Delaney said: “It’s been a long time coming, hasn’t it? Gosh, we’ve been through a lot both as a country and as a world and it’s been a long time since rugby was played out on the park here.
“We’re genuinely very excited about getting back and I am too. We’re pretty grateful for the chance to get back and we’re looking forward to it.
“We’ve graded our physicality right the way up and we had an internal squad hit out last Friday. Everything has been pretty well managed and the performance team have given us the parameters.
“We haven’t had a traditional pre-season game where you have 20 minutes for some players or 60 or 80 for others.
“That’s just not a luxury we’ve got at the moment and there will be some guys who will have to go 80 minutes at the weekend. They’re as ready as they can ever be.
“We’re into rugby and that’s the only focus for us.”
Delaney has revealed Wales and British & Irish Lions centre Jonathan Davies is not yet ready for selection and won’t face the Blues.
Davies hasn’t played since the finale of the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan due to a knee injury, but he is recovering well.
His younger brother James and fly-half Rhys Patchell are though in contention for this weekend.
“Jon is not quite ready for now and we are monitoring that,” said Delaney.
“We are going to have him back in full training at the back end of this week so he is getting to get back up to power, but there is no way we are going to rush him at all.
“He has had a year with a pretty serious injury and has done incredibly well.
“I think we are going to be genuinely excited, not only as the Scarlets but certainly the country will be excited to see Jon back firing as well.
“He is going to get there but we will put him out in a game when he is absolutely ready. That is the proper thing to do.”
