It’s a debate that often rears its head come any crunch match at Principality Stadium: will the roof be open or shut?
And so it was that when Ireland came to town for the final round of the Six Nations in 2019, with Wales chasing down the Grand Slam, the visitors quite literally hoped to rain on the parade.
Under tournament rules, both sides must agree on the open-or-shut case. In this instance, with a downpour expected, Wales wanted the roof closed, whilst the Irish were adamant they wanted it open. The visitors got their wish.
Wales’ capture of the coveted Grand Slam will show the men in green may not have made the right choice – or perhaps it had zero influence on the outcome at all – but either way, talismanic Welsh captain Alun Wyn Jones took the opportunity to soak up the elements on the final whistle after a job well done.
A 25-7 scoreline against one of the best teams in world rugby meant fans stayed in the stadium long into the night, regardless of the weather.
Winning in the rain, 2019 won Round Four with 52% of the vote. You can vote for it in the final by clicking here.
