Wales captain and lock Jones is set to surpass the great Richie McCaw’s record as the most capped player in rugby history this autumn.
But his first priority is the Ospreys who are beginning a fresh dawn under Booth’s guidance after he took charge at the Liberty Stadium on July 1.
“He’s at the start of his career for me,” Booth said of Jones. “The way he put it to me was ‘This is my first pre-season with you’ and that tells you something about Alun Wyn.
“I had a lot of conversations with him in pre-season. He’s been excellent and exactly what I hoped he would be.”
Jones led Wales to a fourth-placed finish at last year’s Rugby World Cup in Japan and then captained his country in the 2020 Six Nations before the tournament was cut short due to coronavirus.
The 34-year-old lock’s first game back is likely to be for the Ospreys against the Dragons in Swansea on August 23 (kick-off 2.15pm).
Asked if Jones was chomping at the bit to get back on the field, Booth added: “I don’t think he knows any other way.
“The group – not just Alun Wyn – has been unbelievably good in the energy they’ve brought. There is a decent vibe which is great and gives us something to kick on from.
“The players are excited to get going as I don’t think there has ever been this much of a gap for anybody.
“It will be interesting to see how this long global season pans out, but this break has certainly helped some players’ longevity that’s for sure.”
