Macron recently agreed a seven-year partnership with the Welsh Rugby Union to add national and age-group sides to a Welsh rugby stable which already includes the Scarlets and Cardiff Blues, plus over 50 clubs from the community game, including the likes of Merthyr, Bedwas and Llandaff.
The new national jersey will be revealed next week and worn for the first time in Paris when Wales take on France in their first match of a six-game autumn campaign, but Wayne Pivac’s 38-man squad will begin preparation from next week at WRU headquarters in Hensol.
Halfpenny, North and Davies will be joined by seven uncapped players in Pivac’s new squad bright and early on Monday morning and one of the first jobs in camp is to ensure the whole group are fully kitted out in the bespoke Macron training and leisure wear.
There are plenty of possible clues about the look of new playing kit, with North, Davies and Johnes, whose Wales Women’s side will wear the kit in action for the first time against Scotland in their own postponed Six Nations clash, all pictured in a mainly black training shirts and shorts, which feature striking red trims, highlighting textured grey sleeve and thigh panels.
Halfpenny’s training singlet is a customary red design which also features textured detail below the chest and his longer, training micro Bermuda shorts are also black with red panels.
Macron’s mission is to provide bespoke, custom-made training, leisure and playing wear to Wales’ national teams, with all product lines being made available for public purchase at the WRU online store from today (Saturday) from 11.00am.
“Macron have a tried and tested rugby pedigree, the first rugby kit they produced worldwide was for Neath RFC in 2008 and now they not only supply clubs throughout Wales, including two of our regional sides but also a quarter of sides in the PRO14,” said WRU CEO Steve Phillips.
“With the addition of the Welsh international sides to their rugby stable they now supply half of the teams in the Six Nations and also have a strong foothold in the English Premiership.
“We are delighted with bespoke kit, training and leisurewear they have provided so far and we are sure that the Welsh rugby watching public will be equally impressed when they get their hands on their favourite pieces in the range.”
From next season Macron’s affinity with Welsh rugby will increase even further when the first instalment of £6m worth of kit over six years, is supplied to the clubs in the community game throughout Wales.
The full range of training wear will be available from https://store.wru.co.uk/ , with training poly shirt (pictured) starting at £31 adult, from 11.00am on Saturday 10th October.
From Weds 14th at 11am training wear will be available alongside the match day kit exclusive to Macron and WRU stores (in store and online), with training kit hitting wider retail outlets on 16th October and playing kit available more widely from 21st October.
