The Cardiff Blues and Wales lock has been in fine form since rugby returned from lockdown and it has seen him earn selection for his country’s six-match autumn campaign.
Davies and his partner Isabelle have become parents to baby Jackson and the forward said: “I had a baby coming up to five weeks ago. My partner does most of the work.
“I’m loving it to be honest. I wasn’t really sure how it was going to work, but I’m really enjoying it and I try and help in any way I can. I think I’ve grown up really quickly.
“Having lost a lot of the senior boys at the Blues over the last few years and then having a baby it’s made me more of a leader and a voice in the team.
“Having played just over 70 games for the Blues and having played for Wales I’ve probably got more experience than a lot of boys in the team.
“I’m obviously very happy to have been picked by Wales. I’ve been involved in the last few campaigns, but not picked up too many minutes on the field which has been disappointing.
“I’m excited to be involved. I want to play well for the Blues, train well for Wales, and hopefully I can get a chance.
“The more games the merrier for me, but I’ve got to take it each game at a time.”
Davies is the sort of athletic, ball playing forward Wales head coach Wayne Pivac likes and he is capable of playing both in the second row and across the loose forward positions.
He hopes to add to his seven Test caps in the month ahead.
“Playing the majority of my games at lock helps me get better in that position. I have played games at eight or six, but I’m more comfortable at lock,” he said.
“I’m happy with my form overall, but I have to make sure I keep that going.”
